STRATEGIC EMERGENCE

(not emergency!)
Picture
Stale strategic plans mean resources are going where they shouldn't, and failing to help where they should. People don't know how to align their actions with the vision or goals. The organization lacks focus and people feel stressed and helpless. Short-term goals distract focus and the wrong things get rewarded.

Like exercise, strategic course-setting means small investments on a regular basis, and bigger ones once in awhile. Organizational fitness is worth it.

STRATEGY IN THE NEW AGE

Vision beckons, strategy sets the course, and daily operations enact the actions. Course-setting is not a static, one-time activity. Strategy emerges through the shifts and changes of external and internal environments, through the actions we take or don't take, and through decisions both large and small. Strategic planning in this context becomes less about setting a strict course, and more about ongoing navigation, with key milestones as  our markers.  Strategic planning at the leadership level  means staying with the flow and making adjustments, both minor and major, along the way.
An effective Strategy Team learns to engage with each other at a deeper level than most of us have experienced in the old-world economy. The perma-change environment requires us to bring our full creative potential  into the mix of how we plan, communicate, and act together.  It means recognizing our biases and preferences, and our hope and fears. It means looking honestly at power dynamics, and learning common languages of creative expression. It means building genuine respect and trust, meeting each other where we are. Are you ready to be strategic on a whole new level?
